COMM-C1000 is NEW
Spring 2026 will mark the second time COMM-C1000 is offered—not just at College of the Desert, but across the entire California Community College system. This course is part of Phase I of Common Course Numbering (CCN), a historic statewide initiative mandated by Assembly Bill 1111 to streamline transfer pathways and reduce excess unit accumulation for students.
Introduction to Public Speaking was selected as one of six high-enrollment courses for the initial CCN implementation, alongside College Composition, Argumentative Writing and Critical Thinking, Introduction to Statistics, Introduction to American Government and Politics, and Introduction to Psychology. Together, these courses serve approximately one million Californians annually.
As a result of the Spring being the second offering of COMM-C1000, I will be making slight modifications to the existing syllabus based on lessons learned from the inaugural Fall 2025 semester. These refinements will ensure the course continues to meet its objectives and the needs of the students I serve.
